Interview Luca Saggiorato
"It will be a new adventure!"
Vincent Esnault, 16.03.2008
Three victories in the WIC last season, plus one second place: Luca Saggiorato is one of the most titled skaters in 2007 in the marathon World series. And finally one of the most titled these four last seasons too! The Italian is considered as one of the best sprinters of the planet, capable to lead one leader to the gold in the WIC and to catch some medals in the international races as well (he was European champion and vice World champion). In this interview, Luca is coming back upon the last season and is projecting himself into the next one.
Buongiorno Luca. Right now, you must be one of the most satisfied skaters of the planet according to the results you obtained in 2007!
Yes indeed. I¡¯m really very happy of the season 2007. The only regret I have is about the overall ranking: I finished five because I did not raced two important marathons... I felt hard at training so that I wasn¡¯t able to go to Incheon and I was ill for the finale in Berlin. It would have been great if I could have get the podium of the WIC!
Can you give us the reasons you¡¯re considered as one of the fastest sprinter in the world for at least four seasons now?
Well, I¡¯m just trying to use the best I can the force the nature gave to me... But also, I¡¯m trying to train in order to ameliorate myself, and to take a race as if it was the very first one. There¡¯s no secret at all...
If I ask you to choose one kind of result of last season between your personal wins and the fact that your leader won the WIC¡¯s overall, which one would you choose?
Without a doubt, I would answer my personnal wins! To win a race is something very special. But if I have to work for the team, there¡¯s no problem: I¡¯ld give my best as well!
Luca, you¡¯re one of the five newcomers into the team of Rollerblade World in 2008: does that means that the ancients will have to acclimate the new skaters?
It¡¯s a hard question... First of all, I¡¯m very happy to be part of the team of Rollerblade 2008, because it¡¯s one of the best teams of the world, with a big story and a big organisation. I hope to do my best to give back the trust the team of Rollerblade gave to me. On an other side, I do appreciate that Francesco Znagarini is one of the new comers in the team: he will be able to show how fast and good he is, and then will take confidence in himself again.
It¡¯s not the first time you switch from one team to another¡¦
Yes... And it¡¯s something that gives me a lot of stimulation. Now, it has become something normal to me: I switched for the fourth time now! But with the team of Rollerblade, it will certainly be a kind of new adventure...
Finally, what will not change for you?
Actually, I don¡¯t want to change anything! I¡¯m feeling very comfortable like that!
What will be your main goals for the coming season?
I¡¯d like to achieve a great season in 2008, and to confirm my personnal ranking into the Top 5 of the WIC... And even to catch the podium of the WIC again! There will probably be a stage of the WIC in Italy this season: it would be great to perform there... We¡¯ll see...
There will probably be many other strong teams on the WIC: what will be the most important opponents?
All the teams are terrible! All of them are stronger, with fastest skaters! I don¡¯t want to focus on one team particularly... I just hope there will not be some stages of the WIC under the rain, at all: I definitivelly don¡¯t like the rain, and I have to become better when the ground is wet...
Last question, but which will get interest to the skaters: now that the 110mm are legalized, do you think that the speed will be higher in the marathon races?
There¡¯s no doubt that the speed will be higher in the marathons with the 110mm. They are bigger, it¡¯s then heavier for me to skate with them... But the first results of this coming season will prouve if the 110mm are a good option for the races, or not!
Grazie mile Luca and we wish you a good season in 2008!
